My Last Week!

We have a special activity this week! On Friday, we will be having a pizza and ice cream party for my last day. Mr. Wislosky will be replacing me after that date. He is already a teacher here and is familiar with my students/classroom already. It should be an easy transition for everyone!

Academics:

Basic skill assessments in all academic areas will continue, as well as practicing daily grooming/hygiene skills. Below you will find a brief over view of the main subject areas addressed in our life skills support classroom. Please review your child's daily communication log to see what specific activities were done and his/her progress being made, as well as review student samples sent home. The daily communication log needs to be signed and returned daily.

New this year: ABLLS assessment. This is a fundamental assessment for students in all academic and functional areas; a further description will be given at a later time. This will be done at least twice a year and the results will be shared with you. I am in the process of completing the functional areas.

Reading: We will be focusing on phonics and reading fluency in the AtoZ program, as well as the News-2-You theme for the week and the Reading materials accompanying it. Also, sight words may be reviewed with each student as specified on his/her daily communication logs. Reading WS will be integrated with the News-2-You online curriculum; you have seen these start to come home already and be assigned for HW.

Math: Students will work on their IEP goals specific to their needs. This will consist of mostly basic counting using manipulatives, identifying/order numbers using flashcards, identifying/grouping money, basic addition/subtraction, etc. This can be carried over at home in daily living. We also use file folder games. Additional Math WS will be integrated with the News-2-You online curriculum; you have seen these start to come home already and be assigned for HW. We will mostly be focusing on our News-2-You materials this week.

Science: We will be reviewing the weather, radar, and maps in detail daily.

Social Studies: All students will review maps of Pennsylvania and the USA, as well as practice their address, on a daily basis. We will also review current events daily. News-2-You is a new online newspaper/program that we will be using daily. This week's topic of "Toy Hall of Fame." We will also be reviewing local news/newspaper websites. I have included fun, family activities and recipe for you to do, if interested, related to this weekly topic. Please practice general directions with your child daily (NESW).

Writing: All students write their name daily. The students will also be writing in either print or cursive the words that are related to our News-2-You story at the beginning of each week. Students will also begin journal writing based on their individual levels.

Sensory/Motor: Physical activity will be done at least once or more daily. This includes online BrainGym videos, exercises, activities with balls, etc.

Life Skills: This will include cooking, community field trips, daily calendar review, etc. This will also include the grooming/hygiene review twice daily in our classroom. Jobs will also be done on a weekly or as arisen basis.
